Team Jak

We were very excited to have Team Jak on board as Aberdeen Pit Stop Partners for the second year in a row! We are even more excited to have them back for Kiltwalk Edinburgh!

Team Jak Foundation are looking forward to debuting at the Edinburgh Kiltwalk this year, look out for them on the Promenade at Portobello – as always, they willl have plenty encouragement and Haribo on hand to keep you going.

Team Jak Foundation was set up in 2015 at the request of inspirational teenager Jak Trueman after his passing following a brave 5 month fight with a rare form of childhood cancer.

Jak – Our Inspiration

Jak’s vision was to create a charity that would Provide practical, social and emotional support to children and young people with cancer and related illnesses, their families, friends and those bereaved.

Team Jak are now supporting over 100 families throughout Scotland and providing outreach services via hospitals.

We couldn’t achieve this work without the generous people, who donate to our cause and take part in sponsored events like The Kiltwalk.

Heading up the team for the Mighty Stride (24 miles) and raising funds and awareness for Team Jak Foundation are husband and wife Mike and Laura Allen, who want to give something back as a thank you for the support they have received from the charity. Read the story of their beautiful, inspirational daughter Laurel below: –

Laurel’s Story – By Mike and Laura

“Our daughter Laurel was diagnosed with bilateral retinoblastoma just before her second birthday. After two years of fighting to save her sight she had to have both her eyes removed to save her life.

“Having the Den has been our saving grace, it’s been a safe space for us to make memories as a family, the Den has also helped us to try and come to terms with what has happened. Laurel loves her music therapy and the sibling days help the boys to see they aren’t the only ones going through the feeling either.

“Mike and I have made friends and it’s amazing what a difference speaking to people who know exactly how you feel and what u are going through. We are walking today to say Thank you for the support!”

Laurel, her brothers Lucas and Logan, and Team Jak Patron Neil Alexander.

Mike and Laura will also be joined by a Team from Co-operative Eliburn, Howden and Ladywell as well as a team from North British Distillery (Muirhall branch),
