Emergency on route

If you come across an emergency please ensure that the emergency services are contacted straight away on 999.

Following the call to emergency services please inform our staff, Kilties or if unavailable contact the control room. The number for the control room is located on the back of your ID registration card.

Course pick up

If you start struggling along the route, please tell your nearest Kiltie or staff member.

If they are not nearby please contact course pick up. The number for the course pick up is located on the back of your ID registration card.

Event ID

Please make sure to wear your event ID around your neck at all times whilst participating in the event.

Road safety

Please note that Kiltwalk does not have any right of way on crossings or road sides.

Please ensure to apply the Green Cross Code and use pavements. Do not walk on the roads and make sure you cross at the appropriate locations. Kilties and stewards will be on hand to assist.

First aid

If you are feeling unwell in any way while you are on the walk our First Aiders will be with you along the way.

First Aid points will be located at each pit stop and all the venues with roaming First Aiders located along the route. If you need assistance along the route please tell your nearest Kiltie or staff member. If they are not nearby please contact the emergency first aid number. The number for the course pick up is located on the back of your ID registration card.

Foot care

Be prepared to manage your own minor blister care.

We suggest you carry a blister kit in your backpack while on route. Do not wear new shoes on event day as it could result in blisters and other possible injuries. We suggest you do the walks in trainers or walking shoes which are the appropriate footwear for a long distance walking event.

Stay hydrated

Hydrate with water and sports drinks during the event.

Do not wait until you feel thirsty – make sure you take a bottle of water at each pit stop.

Stay nourished

To complete an event like Kiltwalk, your body needs adequate fuel in order to perform properly.

It is important to fuel your body with foods that contain high quality calories that will give you the energy you need. If your body runs out of fuel you may begin to have symptoms of low blood sugar such as disorentation, headaches and weakness. If you notice any of these symptoms, it is important you rest and start drinking and eating immediately. If your symptoms persist please notify a Kiltie or staff member.

Lost children

Any lost children must be reported to a Kiltie or staff member so the correct procedure can be followed.

Any found children will be reported to Police Scotland and held at the Information Point located within each venue. If found on route, Police Scotland will take control. It is a responsibility of parents and guardians to look after their own children. Please do not allow children to walk on their own and stay with them at all times.

Be waste wise

Kiltwalk supports “Keep Scotland Beautiful”.

It is important that the entire route and all sites are left in the best possible state and we need your help! Please ensure all litter is put into bins across the route and all venues. Where a bin is not available, Kilties will be able to collect rubbish.

Alcohol consumption

With the exception of the end side bars, alcohol is NOT permitted at any point.

Any walker under the influence of drugs or alcohol will be dismissed from the event. It is a criminal offence to drink alcohol along the route.
