KiltWalk - Durban, South Africa Print E-mail

When TACC supporter Fiona Noble realised she was going to miss the 2011 walk she simply decided to do her own Kiltwalk...in South Africa, with the children from Umthombo in Durban!

Fiona told us,

"TACC is a great charity helping children both home and abroad. My first experience with the charity was when I joined the 400 plus walkers on the ‘Kilt Walk,’ a 26 mile journey from Hampden to Loch Lomond last April. Although it was gruelling, it was still a very enjoyable experience and knowing the money raised would help many disadvantaged children around the world it made it that little bit easier.

I am about to leave Scotland to embark on a World Tour taking me through Africa, South Africa, South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand.   However in South Africa it is not going to all be about the sun, sea, sand and surf. I will be doing the 2011 TACC ‘Kilt Walk,’ however this time it will be through the streets and townships of Durban. All money raised on this walk will be donated directly to Umthombo Street Children, who were helped last year by TACC.

I have never been to Umthombo, but I have worked with Street Children in South Africa previously and I can’t stress enough how a small amount will help improve their lives. I couldn’t believe how positive and vibrant these children were after torturous upbringings and poverty. They were so grateful for the time we spent with them playing games and helping with their homework. Therefore you can imagine how ecstatic they would be at the thought of a new bed, proper footwear or clothes.

The money raised will be invaluable to Umthombo Street Childrenwww.umthombo.org."

Umthombo were delighted to hear from TACC again (a framed Scotland top has pride of place in their dining room) - they will be accompanying Fiona the whole way, including the kids who will match here mile for mile on foot.

And then they'll have a big party afterwards to celebrate!
